Judi Hartman

Intrigued by the process, Judi Hartman has enjoyed the form, color, and dynamics of working with glass since 1979. Self-taught, she has created a vast body of work, from stained and etched glass to fine one-of-a-kind glass fusions which she describes as "painting with glass frit and fractures". These latest creations of the natural world in the mountains, forests and canyons of Northern Arizona have caused quite a stir.

Though Judi still works on commissioned pieces, her primary focus is now the fused projects for galleries. Aspen and ponderosa pine forest scenes are touching the hearts of everyone who views them. Depicted in all seasons, some even at night, these scenes evoke emotions from the viewers. People express feeling of joy as they view the amazing colors of the fall aspen while others sense a peace when seeing the moonlit winter aspens.

"The natural creation stimulates and motivates me continuously. Each day I hike in woods I get more and more ideas of how to create what I see. My goal is to present my feelings into the glass work and hope others sense the joy I have in my creation and making it theirs", Judi says.

Hartman's success is partially due to her powerful design capabilities. To date, Judi is the author of five glass pattern CD's including Oceans & Islands, West By Southwest, Mirror Image, Water, Water Everywhere, and Pattern Profusion, produced and distributed by Paned Expressions Studio. She recently published an article in the fall issue of Glass Patterns Quarterly and a design-of-the-month photo/article for Dragonfly Software.

From 1994 to 1999, Judi's retail and commission studio kept her quite busy ... too busy. She moved back home and built a larger studio adjacent to her home. Judi also teaches classes in several phases of glasswork and donates about 20% of her work and proceeds to local and international charities.

Judi and her husband Dave happily reside in Flagstaff, Arizona.
